About USDD
USDD is the TRON network's stablecoin, launched in 2022 under the TRON DAO Reserve and associated with entrepreneur Justin Sun. Stability was originally meant to come from an algorithmic mechanism similar to the one that failed at Terra USD the same year — the difference being that USDD leaned on a reserve of bitcoin, TRX and stablecoins.
After the market's experience with algorithmic dollars, the project moved in 2024 to an over-collateralised model in which USDD is backed by collateral exceeding the issued value. The dollar peg has wobbled repeatedly in the past, which matters more for this token than its market cap.
Whether to hold it is best judged by who manages the reserves and how they are evidenced. USDD rests on a structure tied to one group of projects — TRON, the HTX exchange and others — so the risks overlap.
