Stellar is a payments blockchain from 2014, founded by Jed McCaleb (a Ripple co-founder). It targets cheap money transfers and currency tokenization — transactions cost fractions of a cent and settle within seconds. Fintech projects use the network for remittances and stablecoins (USDC runs on it, among others).
The lumen (XLM) pays fees and acts as a bridge currency in exchanges. The Stellar Development Foundation has long-standing partnerships with MoneyGram and other payment companies.
