About Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu appeared in August 2020 as a token on Ethereum under the pseudonym Ryoshi, explicitly as "an experiment in decentralized spontaneous community building". A quadrillion tokens were created and the author sent half of them to Vitalik Buterin's address — unasked, as insurance against accusations of keeping the supply for himself.
In May 2021 Buterin burned most of it and donated the rest, worth roughly a billion dollars, to an Indian covid relief fund. That single move remains the largest event in the token's history: it burned over 40% of total supply and showed how fragile it is to "gift" supply to someone who never asked for it.
An ecosystem later grew around SHIB: the ShibaSwap exchange, the companion tokens LEASH and BONE, and in 2023 the Shibarium Layer 2 network. The substance remains a memecoin, though — the price responds to social-media mood and attention rather than network usage, and that is the main thing to weigh when judging the risk.
