About XRP
XRP is the native token of the XRP Ledger, a blockchain designed in 2012 for fast and cheap international payments. Transactions settle in 3–5 seconds for a fraction of a cent. Closely tied to the token is Ripple, a company that uses XRP in payment products for banks and financial institutions as a bridge currency.
XRP is not mined — the entire 100 billion supply was created at network launch, with part held by Ripple in time-locked escrows. The price long lived in the shadow of Ripple's dispute with the US SEC; after its conclusion, attention shifted to payments adoption and XRP ETFs.
