About Jupiter
Jupiter is a swap aggregator on Solana. It holds no liquidity itself — when you request a swap it searches every exchange on the network, splits the order among them and finds the best resulting price. A large share of all Solana trading therefore flows through Jupiter without it running a marketplace of its own.
The JUP token was distributed in January 2024 in one of Solana's largest airdrops — roughly a million addresses received it. The project also pledged that total supply would not exceed 10 billion and reserved half for the community.
JUP is a governance token and voting is genuinely used here: the community has decided on the size of further airdrops and on burning part of the supply. The project's risk is dependence on a single chain — an outage or drop in Solana activity feeds through to Jupiter directly.
