About Gate
GT is the token of Gate (formerly Gate.io), one of the longest-running exchanges in the industry — operating since 2013. The token was created for the GateChain network and pays fees there, provides trading fee discounts and gives access to new token sales.
GateChain has an unusual feature: time-locked accounts from which an outgoing transaction can be cancelled within a set window. It is a defence against key theft — if an attacker sends the funds, the owner has a window to reverse the transfer.
The exchange has long published proof of reserves as a Merkle tree, a post-FTX standard that not every exchange meets. The risk remains that the token's value is tied to the operations and regulatory position of a single company.
