About Dash

Dash was created in 2014 as a Litecoin fork, originally called Darkcoin. It focuses on payments and brought two features Bitcoin lacks: InstantSend confirms a payment within seconds thanks to a lock from masternodes, and PrivateSend mixes coins between users to make tracing origin harder.

Masternodes are the project's core. Post 1,000 DASH as collateral and you can run a node, vote on development and collect part of the block reward. Emission is split between miners, masternodes and the project treasury, which funds development and marketing — making Dash one of the first projects with a self-funding budget.

The privacy element complicates its life: many exchanges have delisted Dash in regulated countries. The project responds by stressing that PrivateSend is optional and amounts to ordinary coin mixing, not cryptographic concealment as in Monero.
