About Curve DAO
Curve is a decentralized exchange optimised for swapping assets that should hold the same value — stablecoins against each other, or variants of the same token. It uses different maths than Uniswap and achieves markedly lower slippage on such pairs. It was launched in 2020 by Michael Egorov.
Curve popularised the "ve-tokenomics" model: lock CRV for up to four years and you receive veCRV, and with it the right to decide which pools reward emissions flow to. A whole market for votes grew around this, known as the Curve Wars — protocols buy influence to attract liquidity to themselves.
The project has two serious episodes behind it: a 2023 exploit caused by a bug in the Vyper language, and in 2024 the liquidation of a large collateralised position held by the founder himself. Both illustrate concentration risk — in the code and in token ownership alike.
