About Cronos
CRO is the token of the Singapore-based exchange Crypto.com. It first appeared in 2018 as Crypto.com Coin on the exchange's own Crypto.org chain; in 2021 the Cronos network was added — an EVM-compatible blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK, where Ethereum code ports over almost unchanged.
Its use is mostly inside the exchange's ecosystem: staking CRO unlocks higher cashback tiers on the payment card, lower trading fees and bonuses in staking products. The price therefore tracks Crypto.com's business health more than activity on the Cronos chain.
The token has a contested episode behind it. In 2021 the company unilaterally cut card rewards, which many holders saw as changing the rules mid-game, and in 2023 it burned 70 billion tokens from the original supply. Both are good reasons to read the terms here, not just the chart.
