Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network — infrastructure that securely brings real-world data onto blockchains: asset prices, event outcomes, or corporate systems. Without oracles, most DeFi protocols — which use Chainlink for price feeds — wouldn't work. The project was launched by Sergey Nazarov in 2017.
The LINK token pays oracle operators for delivered data and serves as collateral. Newer products like CCIP (cross-chain communication) aim to connect banks and traditional financial institutions to blockchains.
